A few weeks ago I was contacted by Ricky who lives in Boston. He and his girlfriend were staying in London for a week, and he’d planned to propose to her at The White Cliffs of Dover, an iconic landmark of England! So, of course, I jumped at the chance when Ricky asked if I would be available to photograph the proposal! What a privilege to document such a significant moment in this couples life.

Being an organised soul, and the first time I’d photographed this kind of event, I’d asked the opinion of some fellow photographer friends as to how they’d approach the situation. I’d decided the best way to approach the shoot was for Ricky to tell his girlfriend that he’d organised a couple’s shoot on the cliffs and we agreed on a code word. The main reason being that Ricky had wanted the cliffs and seascape as the backdrop for one of the biggest questions and I wanted to ensure we had the best light and composition! Another reason for being more prepared was the White Cliffs aren’t mainly populated on a weekday in April, and I could only pose as a wildlife photographer for so long!

Very happily Meriem said yes! Well done to you both for withstanding the chill and blustery conditions!

Here are some of my favourite images from our time together…
