I was delighted to document Victoria and Daniel’s spring wedding for their St Augustine’s Priory Photography. As I was driving to the priory in Bilsington, I spotted a nearby wooded area teaming with bluebells which planted a seed in my mind. More of that later…
Their wedding took place in the priory chapel – a building steeped in history which provided a fantastic atmosphere and Victoria looked as if she had just walked out of a film set. Her figure-hugging white lace dress from La Boutique looked absolutely gorgeous and was set off perfectly by a dazzling beaded belt by Ivory and Co, from Liberty in Love and pearl blossoms headpiece.
We did have a very light shower just after the wedding ceremony, but we were still able to photograph the group shots just outside the timbered front entrance. It was adorned with a natural flower arrangement, by Flower Craft, complementing Victoria’s hand tied bouquet, which worked really well in the images.
What a creative family! Victoria’s mother made the amazing multi-layered wedding cake herself (it must have taken her hours), whilst Victoria had painstakingly created rows of Polaroid memories of friends and family pegged on strings. Victoria was also responsible for the beautiful table decorations and other clever design touches which I adored.
The sunshine made a reappearance just as the guests were being seated, so we took the opportunity to nip outside and get some portrait shots of the couple. Both Victoria and Daniel were wonderfully relaxed in front of the camera – both naturals!
At this wedding, I worked alongside videographers Andy and Keith from Ignite Films. I’ve worked with them before – we share the same unobtrusive way of operating, so it felt like we made a really good team! Whilst the guests were enjoying the wedding breakfast, Keith and I took ourselves off to recce the bluebells and woodland we had spotted earlier in the day. It was a magical place and we decided to use it for the second portrait shots. We were so lucky to have this as a backdrop. We did the shoot during the golden hour – the final hour of sunlight, although the sun had just dipped down behind a deep bank of cloud – the light was still lovely and soft though. What a perfect end to a perfect day with Victoria and Daniel.
