I had the pleasure of documenting Jamie and Liz’s wedding at the very stylish boutique hotel in London, The Andaz, in September of last year. It was the first time I’d shot a wedding at this location and I’d love to return one day. The building dates back to 1884 – I loved the mix of modern and classic Victorian interiors which are a dream for photography.
I first met Jamie and Liz back in 2012 when Liz was a bridesmaid for couple who’s wedding I shot, in Kent. I was delighted when Jamie and Liz contacted me again with a view to me shooting their wedding and even more so when they booked me. Being that they live in London, they chose to spend a weekend in Whitstable in Kent to combine their engagement shoot. Even though i’d met them before, it was still a really useful exercise to get to know them a bit better and for them to experience being the other side of the lens (Jamie is a keen photographer!). It also helps me to see how they interacted with each other.
And so to their big day!
There are so many photographic opportunities at The Andaz and the surrounding area. Although I’d describe my style as documentary, I still feel the detail shots are important as they set the scene and support the primary images. As regards shots of the dress and shoes for example, why wouldn’t you want these recorded after all the time and effort spend on choosing them?
My day started by joining Liz and her bridesmaid and mother in her suite. It was such a lovely large room, and the light flooded in through the large windows which overlook the bustling Liverpool Street below. I then spent a short amount of time with Jamie and his groomsmen and other male members of the wedding party in the Tisch, which is a quite extraordinary room within the hotel.
It was a a really fantastic day and a delight to be a part of. Here are a few of my favourite images of the day.
Liz beamed radiance, such a beautiful bride!
The Tisch gathering…
on to the reception…
The wedding breakfast was held in the opulent 1901 restaurant which was just stunning!
On to the speeches….. there were a number of contributors and the content was very entertaining!
Before Jamie and Liz had their first dance, we took the opportunity to take some shots on the impressive staircase (just one of a number!) near 1901 – thank you to one of their guests who held the video light!
Congratulations Jamie and Liz!
