The lovely Polly and Simon were married at Winters Barns in Canterbury on a sunny, warm day in September. Winters Barns are perfectly set on the outskirts of Canterbury, super easy to locate and are surrounded by beautiful Kent countryside, not to mention the onsite orchard, it posesses lots of great photographic opportunities. Our first meeting was via Skype over a year earlier, whilst they were visiting Polly’s parents in my home village of Bridge and I was shooting a wedding in Jersey. Skype is a very effective method of meeting and discussing your wedding plans if distance means that meeting ‘in the flesh’ isn’t initially possible – a method I’ve used a number of times.
High on Polly and Simon’s wish list, was an engagement shoot as they had admitted to being a little bit more than nervous in front of the lens. They were visiting the area at the end of May and we shared the most perfect evening for their engagement shoot in the village. I can highly recommend that couples elect to have an engagement shoot – it’s a fantastic opportunity to get to know each other and put any fears of being photographed at bay – plus it’s great fun. It’s often the case that a couple haven’t been professionally photographed before, so just to be given some gentle direction can make the difference between a good photograph and a great photograph.
Back to the wedding! Polly and Simon’s attention to detail was meticulous – in particular I loved their choice of flowers for Polly’s bouquet, linked with the sunflowers on the tables and wedding cake – just beautiful, the theme felt very autumnal with a harvest festival twist! It was such a lovely relaxed day, dispersed with lots of happiness, laughter and emotion. Polly looked stunning in her stylish off the shoulder wedding gown and pretty flowers in her hair – she’s a natural beauty!
Polly and Simon are such a super couple, it was great when it came to whisking them off for their portrait shots and to enjoy the gorgeous landscape and the last of the sun for the day. Then it was back to the speeches, where Polly’s father in particular, was fully prepared to revisit memorable moments in her childhood.
Thank you so much to you both and your families for making me feel so welcome!
Here are a few of my favourite images from the day…
The hugely talented local band Gentlemen of Few provided some romping entertainment – they had the dance floor packed!
Thank you you two for your lovely feedback, you were a delight to work with and it was great to be part of your special day!
“We got married in September this year and are absolutely delighted with the photos that Catherine produced for us. Leading up to the wedding she was ever the professional, listened to our ideas and made suggestions which resulted in the most fabulous photos. Both myself and my husband are camera shy but the engagement shoot with Catherine really ensured we were comfortable. On the wedding day itself several of our guests have commented that they didn’t notice Catherine at all which is a real compliment to her etiquette as a photographer, to fade into the background but capture the most personal moments and leave you with magic memories of your special day. Highly recommended”
