Beth and Mike both grew up on the picturesque Island of Jersey, in the Channel Islands, so it was fitting that these two sweethearts returned to the island this May to celebrate their marriage. There’s often a relaxed familiarity at a wedding where the couple have known each other for a long time, and this was no exception. There was plenty of laughter, beautiful moments and a hilarious list of childhood shenanigans in the best man’s speech.
I met Beth and her bridesmaids at the St Brelade’s Bay Hotel, which is located right on the beach. They had the most incredible view from their room, with a long balcony overlooking the sweeping bay and its beautiful golden sand
The room was a scene of frantic activity; the bride and bridesmaids’ hair was individually styled by Paul Mooney (you can find him at 4 York Street) – each one a work of art – they looked beautiful and were complemented by Gabby Mauger’s flawless make up.
The ceremony was held in Sacred Heart Church in the coastal village of St Aubin. This granite thirteenth century Gothic style church, was a warm, intimate and truly charming location for the wedding. Above the high altar, is a white domed ceiling with golden panelling and blue detailing. It provided a stunning backdrop for images of the couple at the altar. We were blessed with a beautiful clear light, that gave a soft golden glow to the church interior. The service was conducted by Father Francis who was most warm and welcoming. Mike’s mother has a friend who is a member of the Jersey Island Singers and the singing during the ceremony was wonderfully spine-tingling. Beth looked a dream in her long, floating veil, sequinned bodice and dress, set off by a pair of pearl drop earrings, adapted from jewellery she had gifted her grandmother when she was a child. Her beautiful smile was completely infectious!
The reception, held at the lovely Les Pres Manor, was fun, fun, fun! Beth and Mike had worked tirelessly on all the details for the wedding, even designing their own logo for the occasion! I loved the vinyl records they used to display table names. There was even a mini tipi for the children. The marquee was provided by Marquee Solutions and looked splendid! The flowers on the day were divine – the bouquets etc, table decorations and creative hanging flowers in the marquee were created by the very talented Clara from Wilde Thyme. There was even a cocktail hour where expresso martinis were served – what a treat! I absolutely loved Beth and Mike’s first dance – Let Love Be With You by Kula Shaker (which happens to be Mike’s all time favourite band and the name of their top table) . The band ‘Little Black Dress’ were amazing and had the dance floor packed – there were lots of impressive moves!
The weather was truly glorious, and Jersey is an amazing wedding location, with so many scenic natural features – it’s a wedding photographer’s dream (it also happes to be my family home too so I guess i’m biased!). We were even able to take advantage of the reception’s proximity to Mont Orgueil Castle and stop off for a few pictures of Beth and Mike standing on the headland with the castle behind them – perfect.
What a fabulous couple and it was an absolute joy to capture their special day.
Many congratulations Beth and Mike. Thank you for making me so welcome and all your fabulous feedback! x
